WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to what I’m sure will be another great year for the DeWitt Elementary Schools! The PTA has a great board in place, and we are excited about the programs and activities we are planning for this school year.

The DeWitt Elementary PTA exists to support our kids, families, and schools. We provide programs such as Mileage Club and Holiday Gift Shop. We sponsor Staff Appreciation Week and Conference Meals for the teachers. We organize volunteers for school activities. We host Parent Education Programs and publish a Student Directory. We offer family events such as the Carnival and the upcoming tailgate. And we give money to the schools that helps cover special costs such as assemblies, field trips, and enrichment materials. This year we are planning to give $24,000 to the schools, thanks to the great community support of the Carnival fundraiser!

I encourage all of you to be involved this year, in whatever way suits you best. Here are some suggestions:

Join the PTA. It’s a great way to support your child’s education and show that you value our programs. If you’ve been a member in the past, thank you! I hope we can count on you again this year. If you’ve never been a member of the PTA, this is a great time to join! Our membership committee has put together a fantastic list of "perks" that are included with your PTA membership—which is still only $8 for the year. Joining the PTA does not mean that you have to volunteer or attend meetings. Your level of involvement is up to you.

Volunteer. Our building representatives and committees will be asking for volunteers throughout the year for various activities, including Carnival, Mileage Club, Holiday Gift Shop, and the Staff Appreciation Luncheon. You do not need to be a PTA member to help out with these events. However, PTA members often learn of additional last-minute volunteer opportunities through the PTA e-mail list.

Participate in PTA events. The PTA presents four Parent Education Programs during the school year. We are sponsoring a Spirit Item Sale. Also, we will be hosting several family events, including the football tailgate and the Carnival. And you are always welcome at our General Business meetings. Again, these events are for all DeWitt Elementary families, whether or not you are members of the PTA.

The potential benefits of getting involved are great. For example, your child will see that you value his/her education. You can feel good about helping others. You may meet new people and learn new things. And, chances are, you will have fun!

I’m looking forward to a fun and productive year, and I hope to see you at upcoming PTA events!
