Parents and educators enriching the lives of
children at DeWitt Elementary PTA, P.O. Box 695,
DeWitt, Michigan 48820
Message from the President We have had a very busy Fall here in the DeWitt PTA. We have been selling Spirit Wear at the Farmers' Market, football games and the Christmas Market. We have shown the teachers in all 4 buildings how much we appreciate them by providing meals during Conference week and we have held Holiday Gift Shops for the younger grades. Now we can take a little break and enjoy our Holiday Season with our families. We hope that you do the same. Deb Blake 668-0500 News from Scott School: We would like to give Shannon Colarossi a big THANK YOU for organizing our Teachers' Conference Cuisines. Amy Ramos and her catering company served a delicious Italian dinner on Monday night and the Subway in DeWitt provided the lunch for Tuesday. Thanks to both of them and thank you to the 20 families who contributed money to make all of this possible. Our Holiday Gift Shop was held the week of December 4th. We made almost $1300. Thank you to our parent volunteers: Marsha Benton, Roz Kramer, Kelly Fairchild, Julie Bain, Kathy Loop, Alicia Hostetler, Dawn Strojny, Caryl Clark, Amy Thomas, Cammie Cantrell, Debby Hanna, Beth Hanna, Kelly Johnson, Christine Hunnicut, Michelle Phelps, Kim Cordes, Pam Crabtree, and Tammy Samra. We are looking for a couple parents who would be willing to organize the Mileage Club. It is a 7 week program that starts in early April. It will be held during afternoon recess on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Call Deb (668-0500) or Christine (669-6263) if you can help us with this fun event. Herbison Woods Happenings: First and foremost, we need to thank all of our awesome volunteer parents once again. Way back in October, several parents stepped up to help set up and serve donuts and cider at the 6th grade Halloween celebration. Our thanks go to the following: June Dennany, Tracy Farthing, Cherie Maurer, Julie Pennoni, Cindy Maher, Tammy Ballard, Renee Felt, Denise Urbain, Patti Weihl, Connie Anast, Scot Ellsworth and special thanks to Beth Hanna (who ran to the store when supplies ran low!). Secondly, conference cuisine was once again a huge success. The teachers and staff have expressed their gratitude and we pass it along to those who graciously helped during a busy conference/Thanksgiving week…Susie Tempelman, Julie Russell, Denise Urbain, Suzann Ruch, Teresa Brown, Paula Wood, Lisa Smith, Mary Kovac-Iciek, Tammy Hamilton, Donna Milnes, Kelly Kendrick, Anne Khol, Patty Maher, Becky Parkinson, Amy Stygles, Karen Eible, Michelle Phelps, Ann Carter, Monique Zarotney, Karima Esmail, Kirsten Vilona, ReShane Lonzo, Sue Rogoszewski, Wendy Smith, Cynthia Chapman, Pam Crabtree, Tina Sharkey and Paula Wood. Special thanks to Kirsten Vilona for coming in and helping us clean up! Sign up for conference cuisine was completed for both fall and spring back at the open house in September. We will contact everyone prior to the spring and for those who would still like to help, staff appreciation week requires lots of volunteering! Thanks to everyone and we wish you all a safe and happy holiday season! Donna Sowulewski Cindy Brushaber Your pesty PTA ladies from Herbison Woods Family Skate Night: Our Dewitt families had a great time at the skate night in November. Dewitt PTA raised $140 due to our families attending this event. We can raise even more if we can increase our attendance at our next event on Thursday, February 1st, 2007! Our skate nights are for DeWitt Families and are held at Edru Skate*A*Rama in Holt. It starts at 6:00 and ends at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 and this includes your roller skate rental. (Roller Blades are $2.00 extra.) You can also bring your own skates or blades if you wish. Don’t forget about Laser Tag, the arcade, and the snack bar. We thought it would be fun to have a friendly competition between the schools. Let’s see who has the most in attendance from each of the schools. We’ll ask at the door which school your child goes to and at the end of the night, we’ll announce which school had the most students. (There might even be prizes involved.) As a reward from Edru for setting up 3 skate nights, they are giving us free passes for the Matinee Sessions during each of the school breaks. Unfortunately, because these are deemed an advertisement, we are unable to send these out in your child’s Friday Folder. If you would like a pass for your child(ren), please call Kristi Lewis at 669-8820 or email Kjdlewis@comcast.net. Also, if you have any suggestions for our skate nights, please feel free to let me know. ~Happy Skating~ PTA Directory: One family was left out of our directory – please write this family in your copy at home. Matt and Christy Stehouwer 3455 Donamere Drive Lansing, MI 48906 517-327-2963 Emily 1st grade Message from VP: Our first parent program night was a HUGE success. Terri Severy was wonderful!! Potter Park Zoo was great! We had over 80 students and over 50 parents attend! I wanted to thank all of the parents that brought cookies and/or helped out in the childcare area. It wouldn't have been a success without you. PTA wanted to give a special thanks to Dream Dinners for providing several door prizes including a gift certificate to make dinners. Our next program night will be on February 7th at Schavey Road Elementary. We will be having an art appreciation night that will involve both the parents and students together making a project. They will then have the opportunity to turn their art into different items for small fees. Items include but are not limited to ceramic tiles, aprons, towels, notebooks, magnets, notecards, sweatshirts, pillowcases etc. It really is very cool and could be done in time for mother's or father's day gifts. More information will be coming home at a later date. Please plan on attending! Any questions, call Alison Kahl at 669-5005 |
