Message from the President

The first marking period is quickly coming to an end.  These elementary years are going way too fast.  My oldest is already in 5th grade.  Enjoy every minute that you can with your children while they are still young.  Don't wait to volunteer in their classrooms until your youngest are in preschool.  Teachers only use parents until 3rd or 4th grade.  Then your chance is gone.

Your PTA Board is doing everything that it can to make the DeWitt Schools the best education that your children can get.  We try to raise as much money as we can to give back to the schools so that our children can enjoy extra activities like field trips and assemblies.  The Board only consists of 20 members.  We really believe that what we do makes a difference.  We would love for more parents to be involved in the day-to-day process.  Call me if you'd like to learn what you can do to help.

News from Scott School:

We are so thankful for the 120 volunteer forms that we have received.  Most of you are willing to help with more than one event.  We are looking for some parents who are willing to take the next step and help us by becoming the chairperson of an event.  You would just be in charge of one event, and then your commitment is done.  Ask a friend to help you.  It is so much fun when you can do something together.  We need someone for the November Conference Cuisine, December Holiday Gift Shop, Mileage Club and April Conference Cuisine.  We will be here to help you in any way that you need.  We just want these events to be wonderful for our students and teachers and we cannot do it alone.

Things are rolling along at Herbison Woods...First and foremost we'd like to thank all who volunteered and helped with the Kickoff to  the  MEAP Breakfast  on Monday morning.  Thanks to Patty Maher, Kelly Fairchild, Donna Scott, Brenda Berg, Pat Howard, Mary Kimble, Deb Blake, Karen Burns,  Teresa Brown and the high school kitchen staff who helped prepare 85 dozen scrambled eggs! It was a great success and hugely appreciated.  Halloween festivities are getting underway with the planning of the 6th grade movie/cider and donuts on Halloween day. If any 6th grade parents would like to help chaperone and/or serve the cider and donuts, please contact us for more information.  Flyers have been sent home with the 6th graders recently. The 5th graders have their parties in their own homerooms. Any questions or comments, please call us. Happy Fall Ya'll!!!

Schavey Road News:

October is underway at Schavey Road Elementary!   Everyone had their smiles ready for school pictures on September 22nd and we're gearing up for Halloween with a school parade and classroom parties on October 31st.  November is right around the corner....we will be contacting people for Conference Cuisine, which is the week of Thanksgiving.  Thank you for all your support at Schavey Road Elementary!

From the Treasurer:

The PTA sponsors various fundraisers throughout the year: Spirit Wear, Football Tailgate, Holiday Shop, Skate Night, Carnival and Fun Run. These have been so successful that for the 2006-2007 school year, we are able to allocate a total of $29,600 to be given to the four elementary schools.      .

I will keep you updated throughout the year how these funds are utilized by each school.

2006-2007 Allocated Funds Payments:

Herbison Woods:  $902.84 toward Ceiling Banners for the Hallways

Love and Logic by Jim Fay:

Terri Severy, one of our elementary counselors, will be presenting information to parents on "Love and Logic." The Program will be held at Schavey Road Elementary on October 26th from 7-8 pm.  Refreshments, door prizes, and free childcare will be available. Potter park zoo will be providing entertainment and education to our students who choose to utilize the childcare. Please RSVP to Alison Kahl, 669-5005, if planning on attending. It promises to be a fun night for all.

Homecoming Tailgate:

A big thanks to all who attended this year's bigger and better Homecoming Tailgate and Events.  A great time was had by all!  Many thanks to the following volunteers, who not only worked tirelessly, but never got to eat: Cindy & Mitch Maher, Nancy Zamiara, Lisa Sullivan, Kathy and Mike Stiffler, and Don Iacobellis.  We could never do it without you!  Kudos to Deb Blake and Ray Knick, who ably handled the Spirit Wear sales.  Thanks also go out to our grillers – DeWitt Schools administrators Greg Shubel, David Potter, Ruth Foster, Pat Ryan (and her husband), Neil Hufnagel, Sean Wade, Mike Foster and superintendent Tina Templin.  Last, but not least, we want to thank Mike Heinritz and American Rentals for the tent and tables, and Mitch Taft of Gordon’s Food Service for the delicious dogs and burgers!  See you next year!     ...Dave and Amy Tratt

Family Skate Night:

Did someone say Skating or Rollerblading?  How about a party for just DeWitt Families?  Why don’t you come join us for our own Private Skating Party at EDRU Skate*A*Rama in Holt on Thursday, November 2nd, 2006, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Admission is $5.00 and this covers roller skate rental.  If you have your own skates or blades, bring them.  Rollerblade rental is an additional $2.00.  We can also enjoy Laser Tag for $2.00.

A portion of the admission price comes back to our schools and we get a rebate if we have over 200 skaters!  We can have fun and make money at the same time! Now that’s a great fundraiser! If you have any questions, please call Kristi Lewis at 669-8820. We’ll see you there for a GREAT Time!
