Join the PTA
Who can become a PTA member? Membership is open to any one who is concerned with the education, health and welfare of children.
How does the PTA help the schools and our children?
Monetary: In addition to your membership fee, the PTA also holds special fundraising activities such as the PTA Carnival and Spirit sale. Last year the PTA donated $31,000+ to the District’s four elementary schools. These monies were used to help fund field trip
transportation, Rigby program materials, student planners, multimedia projector/screen, video camera,
digital camera/printer, 10 Netbooks, recess equipment and several programs/assemblies. In addition, your membership supports State and National advocacy efforts on behalf of all children.
Programs: Parent education programs are hosted by PTA throughout the year to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children as well as understand how to support student learning. The PTA also leads efforts to improve health and physical well-being by offering events such as Walk to School Day, Skate Nights, Mileage Club and an annual Fun Run for families.
Are there other benefits of membership? Many local businesses have partnered with the DeWitt Elementary PTA to offer discounts on retail and services. Just by showing your PTA membership card and receiving these discounts you can easily offset the cost of membership. You will also be included in and receive a copy of the PTA Membership Directory.
Discounts: Your PTA membership will include discounts from many DeWitt-area merchants such as: Back in the Day Cafe • Biggby Coffee • Burger King • DeWitt Computer Center • DeWitt Pharmacy • Domino’s Pizza • Draft House • EDRU • Fiesta Charra • Fifth Third Bank • Flap Jack Restaurant • Garden Lee • Hair Drop • Hungry Howies • Lentz USA Service Centers • Flotka’s ATA Martial Arts • One Step Ahead • Relli's • Santorini Salon • Scoopy Doo's • Shorty's Cakes-N-Bakes • Twiggies
Do I have to attend meetings? The PTA Board holds meetings on the third Tuesday of the month
unless noted otherwise. Business is conducted at 7:00pm in the Media Center of Herbison Woods. You
are not required to attend any meetings, but please feel free to join us when you can!
Do I have to volunteer? The PTA coordinates volunteer efforts in your child’s building throughout
the year, providing you with opportunities to meet staff and work with other parents. While we
encourage participation at whatever level you are comfortable with, PTA membership does not obligate
you to participate. It’s not the amount of time you can contribute that’s important, but rather your
commitment to help PTA make a difference in the lives of children. PTA appreciates everyone’s
membership, whether or not they volunteer.
How can I join? Just fill out the Membership Form and send it to school with your child, along with the $10.00 fee. For more information contact Sarah Gustafson.
The DeWitt Elementary PTA is working for your children! You can help!
Remember, even if you cannot donate your time, your membership fee helps the PTA help your children and your elementary schools.
