The number one priority for parents is their children’s well-being.  More than 30 years’ worth of research has proven that children do better when their parents are involved both at home and at school.  Grades and test scores climb.  Self-esteem grows. Schools improve. There’s a simple way for you to help your child succeed:  Join PTA.
PTA is committed to helping develop united efforts between parents, educators and communities that will secure for all children, the highest advantages in physical, mental and social education. 
DeWitt Elementary PTA does this by:

• Fundraising for the DeWitt elementary buildings (Carnival, Spirit Wear, Art Fundraiser, membership dues)
  These monies are used to help fund things like field trips and transportation, assemblies, learning enrichment programs and equipment.
• Leading efforts to improve health and physical well-being of children by offering Health & Wellness programs (Mileage Club, Family Fun Run, Skate Nights)
  
• Hosting Parent Education Nights  (Celebrate Calm, Love & Logic, CyberSafety)
  Programs offered assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children as well as understand how to support student learning.
  
• Providing Family Fun Activities – Carnival, Football Homecoming Tailgate, Skate Nights

GET CONNECTED…Participation in the DeWitt Elementary PTA can mean more than just financial support of school-related activities and events.  The PTA coordinates volunteer efforts in each building to provide you with opportunities to meet staff and work with other parents.  Although involvement in PTA is encouraged, it’s not the amount of time you can contribute that’s important, but rather your commitment to help PTA make a difference in the lives of children.  PTA appreciates everyone’s membership, whether or not they volunteer.

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION…Your membership supports our local elementary schools but also State and National advocacy efforts on the behalf of all children.  Through advocacy, State and National PTA have been directly involved in the implementation of School Speed Zones, Children’s Television Viewing Act, Parental Ratings for TV, Food Nutrition Labels, Ban on Lead Based Paints, Drug Free School Zones, Support for Special Education, Kindergarten, Hot Lunch Program and many more!

2011-2012 Meeting Schedule

The PTA meets at Herbison Woods School in the Media Center at 7:00 p.m. unless noted otherwise in the schedule.  Business meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month to conduct the business of our organization.  PTA Program Nights are held 3 times a year to provide information regarding educational practices, parenting support, community information, and family fun.  Join us when you can, all meetings are open to everyone!
